Tawa Pulav

Ingredients
for cooking rice:
  • 1 cup basmati rice
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 5 cups water
  • ½ tsp oil
  • salt to taste
for preparing tawa pulao:
  • 1 tbsp butter / oil
  • ½ onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tomato, roughly chopped
  • ¼ cup peas, fresh / frozen
  • 1 potato, boiled and diced
  • ½ capsicum, finely chopped
  • 2 tsp red chilli paste
  • 2 tsp pav bhaji masala
  • salt to taste
  • 3 tbsp water
  • 2 tsp lemon juice
  • few coriander leaves, finely chopped
Instructions ( 1 cup =255 ml)
  1. wash the rice, and cook the rice in low to medium flame without the lid. add oil, salt and turmeric powder.
  2. in a large pan or kadai take some butter and saute finely chopped onions.
  3. once the onions turns slightly translucent, add in ginger garlic paste.
  4. next is to add roughly chopped tomato and cook till they turn soft.
  5. add some fresh or frozen peas.
  6. mash all the veggies well using potato masher.
  7. now add boiled and diced potatoes.
  8. time to add finely chopped capsicum and saute.
  9. add red chilli paste (red chilli paste is prepared by mixing 2 tsp of chilli powder with 5 tsp of water), salt and pav bhaji masala.
  10. also add some water to make the masala moist.
  11. be gentle while mixing with masala.
  12. squeeze some lemon juice and add coriander leaves.
  13. mix well and serve tawa pulao with your favourite onion-tomato raita
